This Level 6 programme offers a significant advantage in today's competitive employment market. It equips you with the skills to contribute meaningfully to your whānau, marae, and professional or academic communities.

Aimed at competent speakers of te reo Māori, this programme enhances your ability to communicate independently with spontaneity and precision. You will develop the skills to articulate ideas and theories across various contexts, including whānau, marae, professional, and academic settings. Additionally, you will gain technical knowledge in te reo Māori, enabling you to engage in research and contribute to the language's growth.

Learning is delivered through a combination of face-to-face interactive classes, immersion conversations, online activities, and practical sessions such as wānanga reo (language workshops), waiata (songs), pūrākau (stories), and field trips. This blended approach ensures you are marae-ready and industry-ready in te reo Māori.

This certificate allows you to realise your potential and make a lasting impact within your community and beyond, reflecting the mana and richness of te reo Māori.

Academic Requirements

NZ3047 Te Pokaitahi Reo (Rumaki) (Te Kaupae 5) - New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo Maori (Rumaki) (Level 5) OR equivalent

Alternative Requirements

Applicants who are unable to evidence that they meet Academic entry requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry. This may include Recognition of Prior Learning. Contact NMIT for advice.

English Requirements

If English is not the applicant's first language, applicants will need to provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact NMIT for an assessment. * IELTS 6.0 Academic (no lower than 5.5 in any subtest). For acceptable alternatives refer to the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart.
